A postdoctoral position is available at the Biozentrum in the laboratory of Heinrich Reichert. Our lab is interested in understanding how neural stem cells generate and specify the numerous neural cell types that make up a complex brain. To analyze this, we focus on the developing brain of Drosophila and study the role of key developmental control genes in controlling neural stem cell proliferation, lineage-specific neuronal differentiation, and neural circuit formation in this genetic model system. The general perspective of our research is aimed at uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of brain development that have been conserved throughout animal evolution.
We seek highly motivated individuals interested in applying state-of-the-art genetic and molecular genetic methods to fundamental questions of neural stem cell biology and brain development. Successful candidates should have a strong background and publication record in neurobiology or developmental biology of Drosophila including familiarity with current genetic and molecular genetic techniques. We offer a fully funded position in an outstanding research environment at the Biozentrum (http://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch). The position is initially for 2 years (with a 2 year extension possible) and is available as of May 1st 2010 or upon mutual agreement.
