A Research Associate is required to work in the Department of Biomedical Science and MRC Centre for Developmental and Biomedical Genetics on Drosophila models of Parkinson's disease. The post is funded by a joint Wellcome Trust and Medical Research Council Strategic Award in neurodegeneration. The project forms part of a large, multi-centre initiative to understand the pathways to disease in Parkinson's disease centred at the UCL Institute of Neurology but the post will be based at the University of Sheffield. The project shall involve the use of Drosophila parkin and PINK1 models, as well as cell culture approaches. The post-holder will use a range of genetic and biochemical approaches to elucidate the function of these genes with particular focus on mitochondrial maintenance. In addition, methods to screen for neuroprotection promoting pathways and chemicals will be sought. The post is tenable from 1st August 2010 for a fixed period of 30 months.
