Dr. Cherry is searching for a qualified laboratory Research Technician to assist in the study of viral infection and immunity in the model organism Drosophila. Duties will include performing Drosophila husbandry, classical genetic experiments and transgenic assays as well as viral infections of flies. In addition, the technician will be expected to become proficient in dissections, immunofluorescence microcopy and other standard molecular biology assays. Duties also include assisting in lab organization and oversight of undergraduates. Dr. Cherry’s laboratory is in an academic setting at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
A bachelor’s degree in biology or related field, prior laboratory experience and strong organizational skills are required. In addition to a sound, practical understanding of genetic, biochemical, and/or molecular biology approaches the optimal candidate would also display an eagerness to work as part of a team and to provide both intellectual and technical input to their own projects.
