Research fellowship - Glia-axon interactions (IBMC, Porto)

developmental myelination and in remyelination” Internal Code: PR683502
A Fellowship is open for a research assistant to collaborate in the above-mentioned Project, financed by the Program “COMPETE - Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade” in its FEDER component and by the Foundation for Science and Technology budget in its OE component.
The fellowship, in exclusivity, has the duration of 12 months, starting in March 2011. The monthly amount of the fellowship is € 980,00.
Place of Work: Neurosciences Unit at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology ( in Porto, Portugal
Background of the Project: This is a multidisciplinary project bringing together different areas of biology to identify and characterize molecules regulating myelination and remyelination. It includes proteomic analysis, cell culture systems, knockout technology and the use of Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to look at glia-axon interactions.
Candidate profile: The applicant should have a MSc in Biochemistry, Biology or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Compulsory skill requirements include working experience in animal cell culture and protein biochemistry. Preferred skill requirements include knowledge/experience working with Drosophila melanogaster.
