FlyBase ( seeks a full-time literature analyst to join the existing group in the Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge, UK (

If you are looking for a fulfilling, fly-related career away from the bench and enjoy reading Drosophila literature then this is the job for you!

The primary responsibility of FlyBase-Cambridge is to identify genetic data from scientific articles concerning Drosophila and to record these data in a systematic manner. The data we capture include all genetic objects (genes, alleles, transgenic constructs, etc.) and certain types of associated information such as phenotypes, genetic interactions and gene product functions. Curated data are subsequently integrated into the FlyBase database and website.

Established staff also: interact with our user community by answering HelpMail and giving presentations/workshops at research conferences, have the opportunity to develop/learn computational skills such as programming or database querying, and work with other FlyBase sites to help improve data display and query tools on the website.

Essential skills/experience:
· a biological sciences degree
· research experience using Drosophila
· the ability to work with care and attention to detail
· the ability to extract and organize specified data from the research literature
· good communication skills, including excellent written and spoken English
· strong self-motivation and ability to work as part of a team
