We are seeking outstanding and enthusiastic PhD and Post-doctoral candidates to join the group of Richard Benton. PhD applicants should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (biology, genetics, neuroscience etc.). Candidates with experience in electrophysiology are particular encouraged to apply.
Our group studies the genetic, neural and evolutionary basis of olfactory perception using Drosophila as a model system. We have a particular interest in the role of a novel family of chemosensory receptors and their circuits in controlling odour-evoked behaviours (see Cell (2009) 136(1):149-162) as well as the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of pheromone detection (see Nature (2007) 450(7167):289-93). Several potential projects are available, integrating bioinformatics, molecular genetic, cell biological, electrophysiological and behavioural experimental approaches.
