Research Associate – Invertebrate NeuroGenomics

Dart NeuroScience LLC (DNS) is a privately held Delaware Limited Liability Corporation with offices in San Diego, CA. DNS’s mission is to discover new technologies and to develop new therapies to help maintain cognitive vitality throughout life. The Invertebrate NeuroGenomics Group focuses on the identification of genes and gene networks central to memory formation. Key regulatory proteins will become targets for small molecule drug discovery.

DNS is seeking a Research Associate with expertise in Drosophila genetics at a minimum (husbandry, crosses, transmission genetics), with experience in molecular biology (cloning, PCR, qPCR, genomics techniques), cell biology and microscopy preferred. In particular, those with skills and interests in animal behavior are encouraged to apply. This is a temporary position for not less than 4 months that will begin September 1, 2012.

The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented team player with excellent interpersonal skills. They must be well organized, keep meticulous records, and be able to work independently in the execution of time-dependent experiments. A demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot techniques and solve complex problems is essential. The selected candidate may be asked to prepare written reports and should be comfortable giving presentations in group meetings. They will be working in a creative, fast-paced environment, interacting with scientists from diverse scientific backgrounds including behavior, genetics, bioinformatics, high-throughput drug screening, and computational, synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

Qualification and Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree (minimum, experience preferred) in biology, genetics or related field

• Technically trained and highly skilled in Drosophila genetics techniques

• Experience with animal behavior (particularly learning & memory), molecular biology, cell biology, and microscopy a plus

• Proficient with common software and statistical analysis packages (e.g., Excel, JMP, Prism, Word and PowerPoint)
