    Df(2R)ths238/Df(2R)ths238 embryos show defects in mesoderm spreading during stage 8, which results in the mesoderm forming a multilayered structure at stages 9-10 (in contrast to wild-type embryos where the mesoderm forms a single layer of cells at this stage).

    Mutant embryos show a weak but significant defect in the migration of ventral astrocytes and in the infiltration of astrocyte processes into the neuropil.

    Df(2R)ths238/+ stage 17 embryos show a reduction in the number of longitudinal visceral muscle (LVM) fibres around the midgut, particularly in the anterior portion. In stage 11 embryos the speed of migration of the longitudinal visceral muscle (LVM) founder cells differs between the right and left sides and frequently a portion of cell occupy more medial positions, with some cells from the right and left sides coming into contact in the midline.
