abd-Aiab3-Uab4/Df(3R)Ubx109 and abd-Aiab3-Uab4/abd-AMX1 larvae have approximately 12 postembryonic neuroblasts in each of the abdominal neuromeres A3 to A7 (compared to 6 in wild-type). Each of these extra neuromeres produces a hundred or more progeny.

Hemizygous embryos show transformed parasegments 8--12 to parasegment 7 (FBrf0042053).

Hemizygotes show A2 transformed to A1 and of A3-A5 to A2.

Adult abdominal segments 3-6 are transformed towards the second. The Wheeler's organ appears partially formed in segments 3-6. Individuals of both sexes lack gonads. In(3LR)iab34 individuals have a dominant abd-Aiab3-Uab4 phenotype, first abdominal segment partially transformed to the second or third.

Causes A1 to transform toward A2.

Comments

Reversion studies show that abd-Aiab3-Uab4 causes abnormal expression of abd-A domain functions in A1.

Ectopic expression of the protein during germ band elongation (FBrf0049558).
