Claws are frequently lost without the loss of other pretarsus structures in al¹/Df(2L)al flies. Claws and aristae are reduced in size in homozygous flies.

al¹/al^ex flies show loss of the arista.

Geotaxis score significantly lower than for Canton S in a Hirsch-type geotaxis maze.

Females exhibit reduced mating success.

Aristae strongly reduced. Postscutellar bristles widely separated and erect but strongly divergent. Scutellum shortened; sternopleurals irregular in size, position, and number; wings slightly bowed downward, narrowed and pointed; first longitudinal vein raised and thickened. Tarsal claws transformed into bristle-like structures or absent. RK1.
