Homozygous Dll7 mutant embryos have fewer neurons and fewer support cells in the dorsal organ (DO) and terminal organ than wild type animals. No cell death is seen (TUNEL staining) and the remaining neurons exhibit aberrant morphologies. The DO dendrites are loosely associated rather than tightly bundled.
Dll3/Dll7 mutant stage 12 embryos show disruption to the mushroom body peduncles. The Kenyon cell clusters are reduced in size by at least 50%, the calyces are markedly smaller, the dorsal and medial lobes are thinned and the relative position of the peduncle and the dorsal lobe are abnormal.
Reduced distal tarsal elements, the metatarsus is fused to the tibia, and there is a decrease in pattern elements on both segments.
Moderate reduction of tarsal structures and fusion between tarsal and tibial elements.
