      245bp deletion.
245bp deletion from 3489 to 3733bp. This results in a frameshift, producing a protein with the N-terminal 232 amino acids of kni followed by an additional 105 amino acids.

Homozygous embryos exhibit 3 abdominal segments.
Homozygotes can be propagated as fertile stocks when on copy of Res is present. kni3/kni8 transheterozygotes are viable. kni3 Res1 double homozygous mutants have a wild type abdominal segmentation phenotype, defective head skeleton and are embryonic lethal.
      Weak phenotype.

      Comments
kni3 fails to complement kniri-1 when it is carried on a chromosome such as TM3 or In(3LR)LD6 that is rearranged with respect to the kni3 mutant chromosome. kni3 fully complements kniri-1 when the kniri-1 and kni3 alleles are carried on non-rearranged chromosomes.
