Males grown at 18oC eclose but have fewer and shorter spermatids. Some males eclose at 24oC but have fewer and shorter spermatids, many cysts arrest before elongation or even before meiosis. Males shifted from 18oC to 27oC during early pupation lack spermatids altogether and testes contain only primary spermatocytes.
Larvae lethal in third instar, survive up to 10 days. Testes and lymph glands degenerate. Imaginal discs develop normally after transplantation. Protein metabolism disturbed; free amino acids and peptides abnormally high. RK2.
