Description

Point mutation (G to A) in the splice acceptor site of the second intron. This mutation is predicted to result in a nonsense reading of the open reading frames of both the eIF-4E 1 and 2 isoforms.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Developmental arrest at first larval instar.

Females containing homozygous germline clones are sterile with no germ cell development.

Homozygotes generally die during embryogenesis, although some individuals survive up to the state of early first instar larvae.

Homozygous embryos show widespread DNA fragmentation from stage 10 to 12 compared to control embryos, indicating increased cell death.

Development is arrested in the first larval instar, although the larvae survive for several days. Developmental delay with eIF-4ESer251Ala.t8.9 is 1 to 2 days.

Hemizygotes die as embryos.

Genetic Interactions
Statement

Partial suppression of eIF-4EScim-a/eIF-4E67Af lethality by Lk6Scer\UAS.cAa results in pseudopupae, whereas with Lk6EP3333 small abortive pupae and pharate adults result. Weak rescue of eIF-4EScim-a/eIF-4E67Af by eIF-4ES251A.Scer\UAS is not improved by Lk6T424D.Scer\UAS.
