The average number of crystal cells per embryo is significantly reduced in homozygous stage 13-14 embryos compared to wild type.

Lethality occurs during larval and pupal stages.

Imaginal discs of homozygous larvae are missing or degenerate. Defects in the cell cycle: few or no dividing cells and affects chromosome condensation.

spictmut neuromuscular junction overgrowth phenotypes are fully suppressed in Med5/Med5 mutants. The synaptic undergrowth phenotypes in larvae homozygous for spictmut in a Med5/Med5 background are indistinguishable from that of Med5/Med5 mutants alone. In addition, a heterozygous Med5 background partially suppresses the neuromuscular junction expansion of spictmut larvae.
