pho[1], Spps[1] double mutants die earlier in development than either single mutant: single mutants die as pharates, whereas double mutants die as third instar larvae or often at earlier stages. Double mutant larvae are often abnormally small and have misshapen imaginal discs.
The reduced wing phenotype of RYBP[Scer\UAS.cBa]; Scer\GAL4[sd-SG29.1] flies is enhanced by pho[1]/+.
TrlR85/Ubx130; pho1 flies show an enhancement of the Ubx130 phenotype in 18% of flies.
phol81A ; pho1 double mutants die as third instar larvae and fail to pupate. The brain is smaller than normal, the disks are misshapen and smaller than normal and the salivary gland polytene chromosomes are enlarged in double mutant third instar larvae.
11% of TrlR85/+ ; pho1/+ double heterozygotes have extra sex combs (on the 2nd or 3rd leg) but they do not show transformation of antenna to leg.
pho1/phocv suppresses the pairing-dependent silencing of wiab-7PRE.860 seen in flies homozygous for P{iab-7PRE-w.860}P24.
Mutant heterozygotes show a moderate suppression of the eye phenotype see in P{UAS-lacZ.Abd-B.5F24} leading to darker eyes.
The addition of pho1/phocv strongly suppresses the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in wMcp.10, wMcp.13,wMcp.scs'.12:15 and wMcp.scs'.11. The addition of pho1/phocv has no effect on the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in wMcp.11, and wMcp.scs'.14. The addition of pho1/phocv very strongly suppresses the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in wMcp.scs'.11 (P{Mcp-w#11}16/+, P{Mcp-w#11}102/+) double heterozygous insertions. The addition pho1/phocv very strongly suppresses the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in the wMcp.scs'.14/ wMcp.13 (P{Mcp-w#14}AP-2stummelbein/+, P{Mcp-w#13}116/+) double heterozygous insertion.
Has little or no effect on the phenotype of E2fGMR.PD DpGMR.PD BacA\p35GMR.PH flies.
Eye colour encoded by wen.8 is darker in pho1/pho1 or pho1/phocv background.

Statement

When heatshocked twice daily, Hsap\YY1Hsp70.T:Scer\GAL4 nearly completely corrects the antennal and sex comb defects in pho1/phocv mutant flies. Segmentation is largely normal, although pigmentation on tergite 5 is not always complete. Correction of claw structures is variable ranging from complete to partial correction.
hide Complementation & Rescue Data
Rescued by
Partially rescued by
pho1 is partially rescued by phohs.T:Ecol\lexA
Comments
Two copies of phohs.T:Ecol\lexA produces healthy pho1/pho1 adults with one heat shock daily beginning 4 days after egg laying. The rescued pho1/pho1 males are fully fertile, but occasionally show sex comb bristles on the mesothoracic legs and excess pigmentation in the 4th abdominal tergite. The rescued pho1/pho1 females have severely impaired fertility that cannot be rescued with a paternal pho+ allele. Only 10% of embryos derived from pho1/pho1 females crossed to pho1/pho1 males hatch, even when heat shocked before blastoderm to express phohs.T:Ecol\lexA. These embryos show frequent and various segmental abnormalities but never show classical homeotic derepression phenotypes. The few larvae that hatch grow slowly and never reach the pupal stage, probably because evident head skeleton abnormalities preclude normal feeding.
