Fails to complement the Dsec\ovo in D.melanogaster/D.sechellia hybrids.
Mutant embryos develop normally except that they have denticle with reduced number and size (the remaining denticles have a dot-like morphology).
Expression of ovoScer\UAS.cPa driven by Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 in a ovosvb-2 background also produces ectopic denticles. Ectopic denticles produced by ubiquitous expression of spis.Scer\UAS (driven by Scer\GAL4e22c or Scer\GAL469B) are suppressed in ovosvb-2 embryos.
Phenotypic category: ovo+ svb-.
Phenotypic category: ovo+.

Statement
Reference
wgl-17, ovosvb-2 double mutant embryos produce naked cuticle, with some residual abortive denticles. This phenotype is characteristic of ovosvb-2 embryos. panΔN.Scer\UAS driven ubiquitously by Scer\GAL4e22c produces ectopic denticles. Addition of ovosvb-2 in this background suppresses both normal and panΔN.Scer\UAS induced denticles, producing mostly naked cuticle.
