run16/shakB-, run21/shakB- and run28/shakB- heterozygotes are fully viable and exhibit no neuronal defects.

Mirror-image duplication of abdominal denticle bands 2, 4, 6 and 8, deletion of odd numbered abdominal bands, dominant defects in T3, A1 and A6.

The denticle belts of the mesothoracic segment, A1, A3, A5 and A7 are deleted, with the deletion extending through the naked cuticle in front of the denticle belts, and into the posterior half of the remaining denticle belts. The deleted regions are replaced by mirror-image duplications of the remaining pattern elements.

Embryos mosaic for run28 show that the effect of run on segment pattern is largely autonomous.

prd RNA expression has been studied in run28 embryos.
