Temperature-sensitive for most Sxl functions. Perhaps most notable for the fact that homozygote viability can be quite high, with females developing as true intersexes (their specific grade of intersexuality depends on temperature). Lethal over a deficiency, a null allele, or Sxlf7,M1 at any temperature; at permissive temperatures, weakly complements SxlM1,f3 and hypomorphic alleles of the "SxlfPR" class, generating (true) intersexual escapers; complementation better with SxlfPb, generating sterile females; fully complements Sxlf2, Sxlf9 and Sxlfhv1. temperature-sensitive for variety of functions; escapers masculinized to variable degree.

At 25oC females have high viability but are masculinised. P{SxlcF1} construct can feminise the females.

Homozygous XX flies show a high degree of lethality, the survivors are intersex. Homozygous germ cell clones give rise to functional eggs. Viability is greatly reduced in heterozygous combination with Df(1)N71 or Df(1)svr.

Partially rescued by

Sxlf2593 is partially rescued by SxlFL.Hsp83

Comments

Females rescued by SxlFL.Hsp83 are intersexual. Females rescued by SxlFLΔ.Hsp83 are completely feminized.

Comments

Clonal analysis demonstrates that Sxlf2593 directly affects the late Sxl function required continuously during development of the female cells.

Nuclei of homozygous larvae and heteroallelic combinations with SxlfPb and SxlfLS exhibit binding of the msl gene products to the paired X chromosomes but no Sxl binding.
