Hemolymph glucose, trehalose and triacylglycerol levels are elevated in mutant larvae compared to controls.

The oenocytes of mutant larvae contain lipid droplets regardless of whether the larvae are fed a standard diet or are deprived of food (wild-type oenocytes only accumulate lipid droplets when they are starved).

Mutant adults show reduced survival under starvation conditions compared to wild-type flies; after 48 hours of starvation 62% of wild-type flies remain viable, whereas only 29% of mutant flies survive. The mutant flies show a more rapid depletion of lipid stores than control flies.

Mutant flies lack the R7 photoreceptor cells.

The mutant phenotype of this allele can be completely rescued by Dvir\boss+t9.

R7 precursor cell develops into an equatorial cone cell (EQC). P{HZ}klgH214 marker expression is present in R7 precursor cell and persists in the EQC.

Homozygous ommatidia lack photoreceptor cell R7. Ommatidia of double mutants with Gap1sxt-BJ61 display extra R7 cells.

In a sev6/Y, SosJC2/+ background, the percentage of ommatidia with R7 cells drops in heterozygotes from the 16% of sev6/Y, SosJC2/+ to 0%.

Flies doubly homozygous for sev6 and boss1 and also heterozygous for SosJC2 have no R7 photoreceptor cells.

Ommatidia of double mutants with Gap1B2 show multiple R7 cells. Homozygous mutant phenotype can be suppressed by Gap1B1, Gap1B2, Gap1B3, Gap1B4 or Gap1B5.

Capable of dominantly reverting the SosJC2 suppression of the sev6 mutant phenotype.
