Act88F6 null flies homozygous for Act88FG368E insert flew no better than the original null strain, flies carrying one mutant copy had almost normal flight ability. Indirect flight muscles in Act88F6 homozygous for Act88FG368E insert have only a slight disruption in structure.

IFM myofibrils are studied in transformant Act88F6 mutants. Mutants permit the assembly of cross striated myofibrils.

LM study reveals a slight change in muscle ultrastructure. Flies had wild type levels of actin and could fly but less well than wild type: wing beat frequency was reduced by 20%. The amino acid change has significantly affected the kinetics of force generation by muscle fibres by affecting the binding of tropomyosin and the light chain of myosin to actin.
