The addition of Hsap\SOD1Sod.PM can suppress the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39 flies to effectively wild-type. The addition of Hsap\SOD1A4V.Sod partially suppresses the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39 having an average 17-19% recovery of life span. These flies however, do not show a progressive age-related decrease in walking speed, instead these flies maintain the same motor ability as controls until 12 days of age, after which they show a rapid decline at approximately the age at which increased mortality rates are first observed. Female fertility is also initially unimpaired but subsequently undergoes a sharp decline. Flies are also normal in their response to oxidative challenge. The addition of Hsap\SOD1G41D.Sod (specifically insertion P{dSod-hSod.G41D}1) partially suppresses the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39 having an average 26% recovery of life span, though some lines (P{dSod-hSod.G41D}2) do exhibit a reduced life span. The addition of Hsap\SOD1G37R.Sod (specifically insertion P{dSod-hSod.G37R}1) can suppress the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39 flies to effectively wild-type, though some lines do exhibit a reduced life span. The addition of Hsap\SOD1G93C.Sod (specifically insertion P{dSod-hSod.G93C}2) can suppress the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39 flies to effectively wild-type, though other lines do exhibit a variability in their ability to suppress the phenotype. The addition of Hsap\SOD1I113T.Sod (specifically insertion P{dSod-hSod.I113T}1) cannot suppress the reduced life-span of SodX-16/SodX-39 flies. cannot suppress the reduced life-span phenotype of SodX-16/SodX-39
