Small deletion within the coding region.
Part of the esg transcription unit deleted (S. Hayashi, unpublished observations).
Progeny from esgL2 mutant somatic stem cells in the testis do not contribute to the hub at the same frequency as wild-type cells.
esgL2 mutant embryos develop variable muscle pattern defects that include the absence of lateral transverse muscles, loss of muscle fibers, and abnormally shaped muscles. The pattern of muscle attachment sites appears normal.
Heterozygotes with esgGW2 are viable with reduced abdominal cuticle and bristles. Introduction of P{HS-esg.F} and multiple heat shocks increases the number of bristles.
Many heteroallelic combinations studied. In cases where flies die as pharate adults, defects evident in abdominal sternites/tergites. In cases where flies are viable, they show held out wing phenotype, and may have some sternites and tergites deleted.
