    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Trans-heterozygotes of pum1/pumMsc display extra wing veins and extra macrochaetae on their notum. The penetrance of the phenotypes is incomplete.

Trans-heterozygotes of pum3/pumMsc display extra wing veins and extra macrochaetae on their notum. The penetrance of the phenotypes is incomplete.

Trans-heterozygotes of pumMsc/pum01688 display extra wing veins and extra macrochaetae on their notum. The penetrance of the notum phenotype is incomplete.

pumMsc/pum7 mutant muscle 12 1b neuromuscular junctions differ in a number of ways from wild-type. The synaptic span (the largest distance between the terminal boutons of the 1b synapse) is much smaller in these mutants, abnormally large boutons are found, and the total number of 1b boutons is reduced, while the average area of a type 1b bouton is increased.

An increase in mEJP amplitudes is not found in pumMsc/pum7 mutant larvae.

mEJP frequency is elevated by 1.8- to 3-fold relative to heterozygote and wild-type controls in pum7/pumMsc mutants.

pumMsc/pum7 larval muscle 6/7 neuromuscular junctions in segments in A2-A5 exhibit an increase in eIF-4E aggregates from a wild-type average of 4.8 to approximately 18 per neuromuscular junction.

Most embryos laid by pumMsc/pum13 mothers have 2 or 3 abdominal segments rather than the normal 8.

Pole cells of embryos derived from pumMsc/pumFC8 females transplanted into wild-type host embryos pass normally through the midgut epithelium into the haemocoel. However, none of the transplanted pole cells are incorporated into the gonads of the host embryos, and they remain in the haemocoel and gut lumen. The average number of pole cells per embryo is reduced compared to controls in embryos derived from pumMsc/pumFC8 females.

Embryos derived from pumMsc/pumFC8 embryos have no abdominal segments. This phenotype is fully rescued if the females carry pumnos.PB, and is largely rescued if the females carry pumΔ2'.nos or pumΔ5'.nos.

Embryos from homozygous females fail to develop abdominal segments at any temperature. Injection of nanos RNA does not restore abdominal segmentation.

    Additional Comments
    Genetic Interactions
    Statement
    Reference

The loss of germline stem cells seen in the ovaries of homozygous twinDG24102 females is accelerated if the females are also heterozygous for pumMsc.

Heterozygous pumMsc greatly enhances the ectopic macrochaeta phenotype induced by EgfrScer\UAS.cUa overexpression in the notum under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4.

cupunspecified has no effect on the oogenesis defects associated with pum1/pumMsc or pumFC8/pumMsc females.

    Xenogenetic Interactions
    Statement
    Reference

pumMsc does not alter the wing posture defects seen upon expression of Hsap\PABPN117ala.Act88F.

    Comments

pum01688 partially complements the embryonic lethality of the maternal effect allele pumMsc, resulting in viable yet sterile progeny.
