At 42 hours after puparium formation (APF), retinas have extra interommatidial cells compared to wild type in flies expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH.

The presence of BacA\p35GMR.PH in the developing eye leads to an increase in the number of secondary cells surrounding each ommatidium.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH results in an almost complete block in "early stage" cell death in the pupal eye (which normally occurs between 18-24 hours after puparium formation); only a line of anterior cell death remains in the mutant retinas. The ommatidia in these pupal retinas are disorganised compared to wild type due to the excess of cells present.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH does not cause retinal degeneration.

The reduction in electroretinogram (ERG) amplitude seen in flies exposed to constant light is not significantly affected by expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

Post death stage pupal retinae of animals carrying BacA\p35GMR.PH have an increased average density of secondary/tertiary pigment cells compared to wild-type. Unlike wild-type, the local density of these cells is variable.

Eye discs expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH show slightly distorted but almost normal ommatidial polarity.

Flies expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH have a rough eye phenotype.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH has no effect on adult eye morphology.

Animals expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH driven by glhs.PE expressed using heat shock during the wandering late thid instar stage or early prepupal stage form a puparium. The salivary glands of these animals (analysed during the pupal stage) are blocked in their histolysis, but not in the vacuolisation of the cytoplasm.

The addition of BacA\p35GMR.PH partially suppresses the eye phenotypes seen in NcΔN.Scer\UAS,Scer\GAL4GMR.PF and Ncpro.Scer\UAS,Scer\GAL4GMR.PF flies. It completely suppresses the eye phenotype seen in rprGMR.PW flies.

Expression causes significantly longer midguts and gastric caecae due to a block in histolysis.

Expression under the influence of glhs.PE in D.melanogaster, prior to the onset germ band shortening, results in a loss of cell death normally seen during early and mid germ band shortening. During eye development, BacA\p35 prevents normally occurring cell death and cell death in response to X irradiation in the developing eye disc. Cell death posterior to the furrow is eliminated. In eyes of BacA\p35 expressing flies small bumps, presumably reflecting a small amount of lens secretion by persisting perimeter ommatidial clusters, are present at the ends of many rows, and rows end some distance from the edge of the eye. Death of potential secondary and tertiary pigment cells is prevented, and pigment cells prevented from dying differentiate as pigment cells.

The rough eye phenotype seen upon expression of DrefScer\UAS.cSa in the developing eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PS is suppressed by co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH. Horizontal sections of eyes of adult flies shows that DrefScer\UAS.cSa-induced eye degeneration is partially suppressed by BacA\p35GMR.PH expression.

BacA\p35GMR.PH suppresses the age-dependent loss of rhabdomeres seen in YME1Ldel homozygotes.

Co-expression of dmαTub84B.PBb and BacA\p35GMR.PH does not block super-competitor status, since their sibling clones are smaller than controls.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in either wild-type or p535A-1-4 mutant cell clones does not affect clonal growth in controls.

Preventing apoptosis, through the presence of BacA\p35GMR.PH, allows p535A-1-4, dmαTub84B.PBb mutant clones to grow to the same size, and at the same rate, as dmαTub84B.PBb-expressing super-competitor clones. Thus, the inability of the p535A-1-4, dmαTub84B.PBb super-competitor population to expand is due to cell death that requires the presence of nearby wild-type cells.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background strongly rescues the adult eye size defect found upon expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev. Non-neuronal cells, but not R cells, are strongly rescued.

A bsk1 heterozygous background, in the presence of BacA\p35GMR.PH, generates additional rescue of the Scer\GAL4hs.2sev->Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS eye phenotype compared to BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ alone.

A pucE69/+ background further enhances the rescue found in BacA\p35GMR.PH/+;Scer\GAL4hs.2sev->Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS flies.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background strongly rescues the adult eye size defect found upon expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in a wal02516/+ background.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background strongly rescues the adult eye size defect found upon expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in a Df(3L)vin5/+ background.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background strongly rescues the adult eye size defect found upon expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in a Df(2L)cact-255rv64/+ background.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background strongly rescues the adult eye size defect found upon expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in a Cyt-c-dbln1/+ background.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background fails to suppress the adult eye size defect found upon co-expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS and MarfJF01650 under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev.

A BacA\p35GMR.PH/+ background fails to suppress the adult eye size defect found upon co-expression of Mmus\Gria1Lc.Scer\UAS and walHMS01263 under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev.

Co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH completely suppresses the reduced eye size caused by WGMR.PG.

BacA\p35GMR.PH ApcQ8 flies have shortened photoreceptors, which are visible in apical cross sections of the retina, but do not extend to its base.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH suppresses the loss of photoreceptor cells which is seen in homozygous l(2)k11101k11101, wahj2E5, Thiolasek09828 and Fatpk10307 clones in the retina.

BacA\p35GMR.PH does not suppress the defects seen in homozygous RbfΔ14 clones in the pupal eye.

The presence of a BacA\p35GMR.PH background suppresses the outer photoreceptor cell death associated with Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT-induced expression of p53Scer\UAS.cJa. BacA\p35GMR.PH-mediated p53Scer\UAS.cJa inhibition is not enhanced by a ninaAE110V/+ background.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in flies expressing HScer\UAS.cMa in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU suppresses the small-eye phenotype, but does not rescue the irregular arrangement of the ommatidia. In pupal eye discs, the number of cone cells is restored to normal numbers (four).

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH suppresses the rough eye and neurodegeneration phenotypes observed in flies expressing tefudsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in third instar larval eye discs expressing tefudsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU does not suppress the increased levels of cell division observed when tefudsRNA.Scer\UAS is expressed alone.

Eye apoptosis observed in Diap1dsRNA.Scer\UAS Scer\GAL4GMR.PF mutants can be suppressed through co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in flies expressing rokcat.GMR suppresses the mutant retinal phenotype.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH to inhibit apoptosis fails to suppress the small clone size in msk5 eye clones. msk5 null cells that survive into phase 2 eventually die in the pupal stage.

The eye phenotype of flies carrying a weakly expressing P{GMR-BZLF1.A} line is unaffected by BacA\p35GMR.PH

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH does not prevent the appearance of large patches of black tissue in eyes containing homozygous cpbunspecified clones.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH delays the retinal degeneration of norpA36 flies, but does not prevent it.

Expression of either BacA\p35GMR.PH and NcGMR.PH together, or BacA\p35GMR.PH and thGMR.PH together, provide no better suppression of the retinal degeneration of norpA36 flies, than BacA\p35GMR.PH alone.

E2fGMR.PD, DpGMR.PD, BacA\p35GMR.PH animals exhibit extra cells in the adult eye.

The enlarged eye phenotype seen in flies carrying one copy of upd1GMR.PB is not modified by BacA\p35GMR.PH.

Co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in animals expressing Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF significantly reduces the rough eye defects.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH increase the size of ato1/Df(3R)p13 eyes by 25-30%. The increase in size is due to extra secondary pigment cells.

The misrotation and incorrect chirality of ommatidia seen in flies expressing ParpGMR.PU is not suppressed by co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

The number of ommatidia in the eyes of EgfrE1/EgfrE3 adults is not altered if the flies are also expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH, but the number of pigment cells is increased in these animals. The rough eye phenotype of BacA\p35GMR.PH animals is suppressed by thGMR.PH or NcC318S.GMR but not by NcGMR.PH.

Only R8 photoreceptor cells differentiate in Egfrf11 clones which are also expressing BacA\p35GMR.PH. Some mutant cells differentiate small photoreceptor rhabdomeres; most cells resemble pigment cells morphologically, but contain little pigment.

Suppresses the eye phenotype of flies expressing debclScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

The small eye phenotype of flies expressing high levels of NcGMR.PH is not significantly suppressed by co-expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

The addition of BacA\p35GMR.PH to E2fGMR.PD, DpGMR.PD flies enhances the eye phenotype seen in these flies. The addition of BacA\p35GMR.PH suppresses to wild-type the eye phenotype seen in E2fGMR.PD, DpGMR.PD, RbfGMR.PD flies. The inhibition of Nos activity with with L-NAME prevents this suppression. The arrangement of ommatidia is still abnormal, and many additional pigment cells are still observed.

The eye phenotype seen in Dcp-1ΔN.GMR flies is suppressed by the addition of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

The eye phenotype caused by two copies of blGMR.PC is suppressed by coexpression of BacA\p35GMR.PH.

Largely suppresses the rough eye phenotype caused by expression of two copies of Psn+14.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

Overexpression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in ApcQ8 homozygotes rescues the retinal neurons from death. The rescued photoreceptors appear normal at the apical surface of the eye, but at more basal levels they have dramatically shrunken diameters and lose contacts with their neighbours.

Suppresses the rough eye phenotype of argosGMR.PS : normal number of cone cells and primary pigment cells are restored in most ommatidia.

Simultaneous expression of P{GMR-grim} and P{GMRP35} restores wild type size and organisation of the eye, P{GMRP35} suppresses the retinal cell death phenotype associated with ectopic grim expression.

Strongly enhances the rough eye phenotype caused by E2fGMR.PD, DpGMR.PD double mutants.

Suppression of Nos activity (by injection of specific Nos inhibitors) in P{GMRP35} larvae causes excess proliferation of cells in the developing eye: increased number of ommatidium, increased number of cells per ommatidium, an increase in the overall size of the eye and an increase in the number of pigment, cone and bristle cells.

Flies carrying both P{GMRP35} and P{GMR-rpr.W} (two copies) show the same slightly rough eye phenotype as flies carrying P{GMRP35} alone.
