Drives expression in the mushroom body and mushroom body neurons.

ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y labels postmitotic gamma Kenyon cells and a small subset of later-born alpha/beta Kenyon cells.

Labels a broad set of embryonic- and larval-born Kenyon cells and also labels a small number of other neurons in the brain, ring gland, and ventral nerve cord.

Expression is observed in the gamma neurons of the adult mushroom body and in a small number of core alpha and beta neurons.

ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y is expressed in most mushroom body neurons.

In the mushroom body, ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y drives expression in the whole of the alpha and beta lobes, with stronger expression being detected in the core subdivision. In the gamma lobe, the main body of the lobe stains stronger than the dorsomedial tip.

ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y drives expression in non-core neurons of the third instar pedunculus and mushroom body lobes in layers more peripheral to the onset of layers expressing Fas2.

Expression of ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y is within a centrally located subset of Kenyon cells in early larval stages, but is detected in many Kenyon cells by third instar. Expression is detected in the surface and middle layers of the pedunculus and the mushroom body lobes in early instar larvae, but is detected in many of the neurons by third instar.

Expression of ScerGAL4Tab2-201Y is seen within core elements of the adult alpha-lobe and the beta-lobe, but is seen to be continuous with the outer shell of the pedunculus. Expression is strong in the alpha lobes at the early pupal stage, but is absent in mid-pupal stage and restricted in the late pupal and adult stages. Similarly, beta-lobe expression is absent in mid-pupal stage, and relatively restricted in the early and late pupal stages and adult stage.

Larval expression is observed in subset of Kenyon cells in each of four clusters, in the calyx and pedunculus, and in the circumference of the β and γ lobes, and in a cone-like pattern in and in the cap of the α and α' lobes of the mushroom body.

Expression in adult brain primarily in corpora pedunculata (mushroom body).

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Activation of mushroom body neurons expressing Scer\GAL4Tab2-201Y through overexpression of temperature sensitive TrpA1 results in similar amounts of increased sleep in young (1 day) and mature (7-8 day) flies compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Tab2-201Y cells in adults significantly reduces aversive and appetitive 1-min visual memory, and aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; impairment of 1-min visual memory is not seen when inhibition is restricted to a smaller subset of Scer\GAL4Tab2-201Y cells (using Scer\GAL80Mef2.mb247); inhibition during testing alone, but not training, significantly reduces aversive 30-min visual memory, compared to controls; inhibition does not significantly affect responses to sugar or electric shock, compared to controls.
