Embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 lack cell mixing at the segment boundary during dorsal closure (in the abdominal segments of wild-type embryos at the end of dorsal closure, a mixer cell moves across the segment boundary from the anterior compartment to the posterior compartment and two cells from the ventral ectoderm intercalate into the leading edge, posterior to the mixer cell).

Embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E show normal cell intercalation and mixer cell shifting at the segment boundary during dorsal closure.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI in the dorsal proximal cells of the prothoracic leg disc results in the formation of a blastema, a structure needed for imaginal disc regeneration, in 59% of cases.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E results in the loss of row 1 denticles, either completely or partially in all abdominal denticle belts.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.PM does not result in cuticular transformation of the eye. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC in clones in the notum is not associated with histotype transformations or "mixed" tissues.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4sim.PS in embryos results in the most ventral portions of the denticle belts secreting naked cuticle.

wgScer\UAS.cLa; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 third instar wing discs show expansion of the proximal wing pouch, hinge and notum regions. BrdU incorporation is increased in the proximal wing pouch, but decreased in the centre (distal region) of the wing pouch, compared to wild-type controls.

Flies expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4cad-em459 show small duplications of the penis apparatus or the complete absence of terminalia.

Cells in the wing disc expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP cycle aberrantly, compared to internal control cells; the cells have cell cycle phasing characteristic of mature wing disc cells, rather than phasing appropriate for their chronological age. Cell size is normal.

Flies carrying wgScer\UAS.cLa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 which are grown at 35oC until the early third instar and then downshifted to 18oC show mutant wing hinge phenotypes; axillary sclerite 1, axillary sclerite 2 and the unnamed plate are missing and axillary sclerite 3 is sometimes duplicated. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL430A causes loss of the axillary pouch and expansion of the pleural sclerite in the ventral wing hinge.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG has no obvious effect on germ cell behaviour in the embryo.

When wgScer\UAS.cLa is driven by Scer\GAL4en-e16E, mild denticle belt phenotype is seen: denticle row 1 is missing.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB results in near complete deletion of the eye.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 blocks furrow birth and reincarnation in the eye disc.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS results in an increase in the dorsal trunk of the tracheal system at the expense of the visceral branch. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 results in a naked cuticle phenotype.

wgScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4ap-md544 causes an apparent duplication of the wing pouch.

Somatic clones of wgScer\UAS.cLa expressing cells (driven by Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC) induce large outgrowths in the hinge and notum regions with wing histotype. In adult wings these clones are associated with the differentiation of wing margin structures but not with outgrowths.

Early induced clones of wg overexpression produce notum to wing transformation.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a uniform lawn of 4o cells in the dorsal epidermis of the embryo (in wild-type embryos each parasegment contains 4 types of cells in the dorsal epidermis; the 1o, 2o and 3o cells in the anterior half of the parasegment and the 4o cells in the posterior half of the parasegment).

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS results in a dorsal trunk which is thicker than wild type, while the visceral branches of the tracheal system are missing or very much reduced.

Embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of both Scer\GAL4how-24B and Scer\GAL4twi.PG have grossly abnormal gut morphology.

When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 almost the entire pleura is transformed to tergite and sternite identities. Clones induced in the pleura, driven by Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PP, cause nonautonomous transformations to tergite or sternite.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 can result in duplication of the pouch in the wing disc.

When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4en-e16E row 1 of the denticle belt is lost. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4en-e16E in a wgl-17 background generates an expanse of naked cuticle anterior to the Scer\GAL4en-e16E driven wg source in each segment. Posteriorly, denticles of rows type 2-6 form.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in partial absence of male external genitalia and duplication of the thorn bristle row and long bristle in female external genitalia.

The notum and hinge regions of the wing disc are enlarged in larvae expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. The eye discs are enlarged. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4A9 does not have a significant effect on cell proliferation in the wing pouch.

Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1-mediated expression partially blocks differentiation near the margins of the eye disc, differentiation is restricted to the median portion of the disc. Ectopic wg expression can generate a new dorsal-ventral axis in the eye disc.

Expands G2 arrest in the ZNC of the developing wing, extending dorsally and ventrally.

Scer\GAL4C-765-mediated expression causes expansion of ventral leg structures (such as the sex comb), loss of dorsal leg structures leading to a curvature of the distal segments and transdetermination to wing. Ventral wing hinge structures, such as the pleural wing process, have replaced proximal-dorsal leg tissue. wgAct5C.PS; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1/wgScer\UAS.cLa leg discs are three to five times the size of wild-type leg discs. Ventral wing hinge structures are found in the dorsal leg region. Small areas of wing tissue occur in proximal segments of the legs.

When expression is driven in the mesoderm by Scer\GAL4how-24B, the midgut and epidermal phenotype of wg mutants is partially rescued.

Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 mediated expression causes duplication of the vaginal plates and reduced vulva. Males exhibit reduced claspers, lateral plates, lateral lobe and apodeme and abnormal anal plate.

Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 induced expression causes transdetermination in the adults; maxillary palp to antenna, antenna to maxillary palp, leg to wing and leg to haltere. Bifurcation and overgrowth of the antenna, but not the legs. Head and untransformed legs exhibit substantial loss of dorsal pattern elements. Wings exhibit pattern abnormalities.

Expression driven by P{GawB}BxMS1096 causes high density of wing margin bristles in pharate adults and an increase in size of the dorsal hinge.

Supernumerary wing formation in the portion of the wing disc normally fated to give rise to the body wall. Adults with wing duplications can be recovered when larvae are raised at 18oC.

Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c causes a naked phenotype.

Expression of either wgScer\UAS.cLa or dppScer\UAS.cSa does not enhance the overproliferation seen in wing discs expressing EgfrScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544. However, co-expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa and dppScer\UAS.cSa with EgfrScer\UAS.cBa produces tumors consisting of epithelial and mesenchymal cell populations and showing loss of epithelial integrity.

While 59% of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI>wgScer\UAS.cLa prothoracic leg discs form a blastema, only 22% of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI>wgScer\UAS.cLa, p535A-1-4 legs and 15% of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI>wgScer\UAS.cLa, NcI29 legs form a blastema.

In embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E in a hhAC/hhAC background, naked cuticle is made over four to five cell diameters posterior as well as anterior to the en-expression domain. In these embryos, instead of denticle belts, a thin stripe of denticles similar to row 6 denticles are formed. In embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E in a hhAC/+ background, an intermediate phenotype is seen, with small regions of naked cuticle ("gaps") being found within denticle belts, often replacing denticle rows 2-5.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4C96 suppresses the loss of wing blade tissue, including the slender recurved chemosensory wing margin bristles, seen in ctK, ct2s or ct6 flies, but does not rescue the loss of the stout mechanosensory wing margin bristles.

Coexpression of wgScer\UAS.cLa with eyScer\UAS.cHa, under control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1, completely blocks ectopic eye formation (using antibodies against elav to visualize eye differentiation) in leg and wing discs.

Co-expression of vgScer\UAS.cZa and wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.PM causes the transformation of the eye into wing blade, resulting in outgrowths with histotypical characteristics typical of wing blade. Co-expression of vgScer\UAS.cZa and wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC in clones in the wing imaginal disc leads to the formation of tubular and perpendicular outgrowths from the wing blade. The size of the outgrowths is larger than in clones expressing vgScer\UAS.cZa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC and is dependent on the distance from the wing margin. All the cells of the wg-vg expressing clones are differentiated into wing margin sensory elements, whereas non-autonomous territories of the outgrowth are differentiated into wing blade trichomes. Co-expression of vgScer\UAS.cZa and wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC in clones in the wing hinge or notum cause transformation phenotypes; the cells autonomously differentiate into wing margin and non-autonomously differentiate into wing blade trichomes. Co-expression of vgScer\UAS.cZa and wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC in clones in the leg results in a "mixed" phenotype with leg chaetae mixed with wing blade trichomes in a "salt and pepper" distribution. Co-expression of vgScer\UAS.cZa and wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC in clones in the eye results in the cells autonomously differentiating into sensory elements of the wing margin.

The overexpression of wgScer\UAS.cLa in a AxnScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP, Scer\GAL4arm.PS mutant leads to some restoration of naked cuticle.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E in hhAC embryos rescues the formation of neuroblast NB 7-3 95% of hemisegments.

The addition of either dor8 or Chc1 to wgScer\UAS.cLa,Scer\GAL4en-e16E animals leads to an enhancement of the denticle belt phenotype leading to large amounts of excess naked cuticle.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4wg.PM in a wgl-17 Wnt2unspecified double mutant background rescues some dorsal trunk in the trachea. However when wgScer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS there is strong rescue, and more dorsal trunk is made.

The dorsal patterning defects in linunspecified embryos are not rescued by the expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS.

The tracheal system defects caused by expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS is largely suppressed by Df(2L)32FP-5, although the visceral branches remain partially reduced. When wgScer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS in a tkv8 background a huge dorsal trunk is formed and no other tracheal branches are usually formed.

When dppScer\UAS.cSa and wgScer\UAS.cLa are coexpressed via Scer\GAL4T155 in pupae, abdominal pattern is restored to wild type, indicating that pleural and tergite/sternite fates are specified by the balance between competing wg and dpp activities.

Significantly suppresses the reduction in the dorsal side of the wing pouch seen in larvae expressing vgScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4A9.

Scer\GAL4h-1J3-mediated expression in smo3 mutants at 18oC suppresses the smo denticle belt phenotype.

Although Scer\GAL4arm.PS mediated expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa in wgl-17 Df(2R)enE embryos does not rescue segmentation, the embryos do lengthen a little but no Keilin's organs form. Instead of a lawn of denticles the ventral abdomen now makes naked cuticle. The T1 denticles resemble those normally found in the beard, although the beard is not small and localised. Scer\GAL4arm.PS mediated expression of both wgScer\UAS.cLa and enScer\UAS.cGa in wgl-17 Df(2R)enE embryos causes a small beardless, near-spherical and unsegmented embryo with extruded organs (believed to be foregut and hindgut), i.e. less phenotypic rescue than for Scer\GAL4arm.PS mediated expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa alone. Scer\GAL4arm.PS mediated expression of both wgScer\UAS.cLa and hhScer\UAS.cIa in wgl-17 Df(2R)enE embryos causes naked cuticle to form in the place of the T1 beard. Scer\GAL4prd.RG1 mediated expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa in wgl-17 Df(2R)enE embryos causes a lengthening of the whole embryo and instead of a lawn of denticles alternate stripes of naked and denticulate cuticle appear. Two types of denticle form in each band, small ones on the outside and larger ones inward. Individual denticles tend to point towards the nearest naked domain.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4cad-em459 in wgl-16/wgSp-1 females sometimes results in recovery of the vaginal plates and tergite eight, but not the vulva. The analia are much reduced in some cases and some females have no genital and anal structures. Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4cad-em459 in wgl-16/wgSp-1 males results in recovery of genital structures such as the claspers and penis apparatus, although the penis apparatus is sometimes still reduced. Analia are almost normal or reduced.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4en-e16E in a wgl-17 background rescues many rows of the denticle belts, except row 1.

wgspd-fg/wgspd-hL2 transheterozygous wing phenotype can be partially rescued by Scer\GAL4vg.PM induced expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa, rescue of the anterior wing margin and the posterior wing blade between vein 5 and the posterior margin.
