About 3% of Dllmd23/Dll3 and Dllmd23/Dll9 animals emerge as adults, with all escapers displaying partial transformation of the antenna to leg structures and deletion of distal leg structures.

Dllmd23/Dll3 animals results in the loss of the arista and transformation of antennal segment 3 towards leg. Antennal segment 2 is present and has a normal cuticle.

Scer\GAL4Dll-md23-mediated expression of discoScer\UAS.cDa partially rescues the lethality associated with Dllmd23/Dll3 or Dllmd23/Dll9, and nearly completely rescues the antenna and leg phenotypes of these mutants.

Scer\GAL4Dll-md23-mediated expression of discodsRNA.Scer\UAS reduces the number of Dllmd23/Dll3 or Dllmd23/Dll9 escapers to nearly zero.

ssa homozygotes which are also carrying one copy of Dllmd23 show tarsal defects in the leg.
