ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev heterozygous mutants exhibit a 70% loss of ommatidial R7 cell.

Flies expressing ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev have a rough eye phenotype.

In about 80% of ommatidia the R7 photoreceptor and one or two other photoreceptor cells are missing from each ommatidium. The eyes have a rough appearance. Flies carrying two copies of P{sE-KDN.T} show a more extreme phenotype than those carrying one copy.

Rough eye phenotype. Photoreceptor differentiation is blocked. Phenotype is dosage sensitive: two copies of the transgene cause a much more extreme phenotype.

ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev/alphS-355 mutants exhibit a 20% loss of ommatidial R7 cells, indicating that alphS-355 has suppressed the ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev phenotype. This effect is not specific to the R7 cells as the loss of outer photoreceptors is suppressed in this double mutant.

ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev/alphS-331 mutants exhibit a 24% loss of ommatidial R7 cells, indicating that alphS-331 has suppressed the ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev phenotype. This effect is not specific to the R7 cells as the loss of outer photoreceptors is suppressed in this double mutant.

The rough eye phenotype caused by phl::tor13D.hs.sev is robustly enhanced by ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev.
