Homozygous clones in the retina can result in defects in the mechanosensory bristles of the ommatidia, including duplication and missing and misplaced bristles.

Homozygotes mostly die as late second instar larvae, between 88 and 184 hours after egg-laying. Homozygotes show a delay in moulting from first to second instar larvae compared to wild-type.
