stjk10814/stjk10814, stjk10814/Df(2R)CX1 or stjk10814/Df(2R)Exel7128 animals survives to adulthood if raised apart from heterozygous and wild-type siblings, but otherwise die during third instar. Adults are ataxic, flightless and die a few days after eclosion.

stjk10814/stjDD106 animals have an increase in branch number per-neuromuscular junction and a small (15%) but significant (p <0.05) increase in the mean number of boutons per neuro-muscular junction in third instar larvae despite decreased muscle size in these animals compared to controls. Normalized to muscle size, this corresponds to a 50% increase in bouton density. Electrophysiological recordings (0.3mM Ca[2+] 10mM Mg[2+] at neuromuscular junctions in these larvae or in stjk10814/Df(2R)CX1 larvae show that the amplitude of miniature excitatory junction potentials (EJPs) is normal, but their frequency is significanly decreased. In contrast, the amplitude of evoked EJPs is dramatically reduced. This latter effect is seen across a range of Ca[2+] concentrations.

However, the reduction in mini (spontaneous) EJPs seen at these junctions is suppressed.
