The expression of wgUAS.cHa.Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS results in short lived adults with a progressive decrease in climbing ability; 25 days old adults also show decreased flight ability; peripheral wing nerves show axonal loss in aged flies (25 days post eclosion).

The expression of wgUAS.cHa.Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 results in short lived adults with a progressive decrease in climbing ability; 25 days old adults also show decreased flight ability.

Expression of wgUAS.cHa.Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS significantly increases bouton number at the neuromuscular junction of muscle 4, compared to controls, with no effect on bouton size.

Expression of wgUAS.cHa.Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4rn-GAL4-5 (with tub-Gal80[ts] restricting expression to third instar larvae) does not lead to ectopic wings compared to controls.

Analysis of the eye nipple arrays in these overexpression mutants reveals a catastrophic loss of nipples, with the remaining nanostructures randomly spaced with large gap areas.

Overexpression of wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 using Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 decreases the nuclear size of distal salivary gland cells. Thus, the normal difference in size between proximal and distal salivary gland cells is small in these animals.

Very few nuclei incorporate BrdU in wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1, Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 salivary glands.

A similar effect can be achieved by expressing wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 exclusively during the adult stage. At higher expression levels of wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 (achieved by increasing the temperature for the experiments) the proportion of spindle cell zone cells in the posterior intestine is increased compared to wild-type. Overexpression of wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 at somewhat lower temperatures results in a less extreme expansion of the hindgut proliferation zone and there is an apparent increase in round cell zone cells.

Embryos derived from females homozygous for wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 crossed to males homozygous for Scer\GAL4e22c have a naked cuticle phenotype.

When wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 is driven by Scer\GAL4C380 or Scer\GAL4C164, a slight increase in the number of synaptic boutons is seen.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 using Scer\GAL4e22c in wgl-17 embryos causes all ventral epidermal cells to secrete naked cuticle. wgl-17 embryos expressing wgScer\UAS.cHa.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4wg.PM show full rescue of the ventral cuticle pattern, although the embryos are slightly distorted as the dorsal pattern elements are not rescued.
