Homozygotes exhibit a minimal degree of transformation of arista to tarsus, phenotype is not sensitive to temperature. Hemizygotes exhibit incomplete tarsal segmentation, segmentation is more strongly suppressed at 18oC. Fusion of the segments is less manifested in the second leg, as compared with the first, third and homeotic tarsus on the antenna.
pbhs.PB, ssa40aw has tarsal segment phenotype
Df(3R)P10, ssa40aw has metathoracic tarsal segment phenotype
pbhs.PB, ssa40aw has antennal segment phenotype
labhs.PH, ssa40aw has third segment of antenna phenotype
Loss of Ubx suppresses the defective tarsal segmentation phenotype on the third leg. ssa40aw flies carrying Pc3 exhibit sex combs on the tarsi of each leg. At lower temperatures, the number of teeth increases and segmentation of the leg is highly suppressed. Introduction of trxB22 completely neutralizes the negative effect of Pc on the formation of tarsal structures. Induction of labhs.PH expression causes overgrowth of the third antennal segment without the formation of multiple bristles. Induction of pbhs.PB expression causes shortening of the distal parts of the tarsus, mostly in the antennae, legs are less affected.
