P{EP} insertion at position 72346 of DS00929.
The P{EP}vigEP812 insertion maps within the vig coding region, which results in a severe reduction in the level of vig protein relative to wild type (see FBrf0208478). The insertion also maps within the intron between the first and second exons common to vas and solo (since vig lies within this intron). The insertion also appears to affect vas function, since it is female sterile in combination with vas3 (see FBrf0111326). It is not known whether or not solo function is affected by the insertion ( date:2015.04.14 ).
vigEP812 dominantly suppresses PEV, as assayed using the y PEV reporter lines P{SUPor-P}B079 or P{SUPor-P}J448.
Expression of P{EP}vigEP812 under the control of Scer\GAL4fkh.PH produces a weakly penetrant 'lumpy lumen' phenotype in the embryonic salivary gland (it is not known whether this is due to an effect on vig or vas (or both)).
Selected as: a P{EP} insertion line that modifies the pnrMD237/+ phenotype when expressed using Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237.
The P{EP}vigEP812 insertion results in a reduction in expression of vig protein, but it may also affect vas (as the vig gene is within an intron of vas). The modification of position effect variegation (PEV) seen in P{EP}vigEP812/+ flies appears to be due to the reduced levels of vig protein and not due to an effect on vas, since a mutation that only affects vas does not modify PEV.
