In ssD114.9/ssD115.7 mutant legs, the tarsal segments ta2, ta3, and ta4 appear to be missing while the distal-most tarsal segment is present but malformed. Small, ectopic protrusions can occasionally be observed in ta1 of these mutants. At the leg disc stage, cells that normally develop into tarsal segments ta3-ta5may possibly acquire the ta5 fate at a very early third instar stage and also incorporate the ta4 fate at subsequent stages to form a ta5/ta4 hybrid tarsus in late third instar.

ssa/ssD114.9 mutants have ectopic sex combs in t2 and an ectopic joint within t1.

The antenna is transformed into leg in ssD114.9/Df(3R)ss-D114.4 animals.

ssD114.9/Df(3R)ss-D114.4 mutants exhibit cuticular defects in the arista. These include the elongation of antennal segment 2 (a2), loss of olfactory sensilla from antennal segment 3 (a3), and transformation of antennal segment 4 (a4), antennal segment 5 (a5), and arista to tarsal segments. The a2/a3 joint is still present in these animals. ssD114.9/Df(3R)ss-D114.4 mutant antennal discs, overgrowth is seen in the central area of the disc.

Null phenotype. Antennal transformations, reduction in bristle size and tarsal deletions.
