Expression of Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act] does not rescue the reduction in lifespan seen in flies under hyperoxia. Expression of Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[ple.PF] rescues the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons that is seen in flies under hyperoxia.
Expression of Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of either Scer\GAL4[Act5C] or Scer\GAL4[da.G32] increases mean life span by 15-30%. Age related impairment in negative geotaxis is modestly delayed in flies expressing Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C] but is not altered in flies expressing Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[da.G32]. Expression of Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[D42], Scer\GAL4[Appl.G1a], Scer\GAL4[elav-C155], Scer\GAL4[repo], Scer\GAL4[Mef2.PR] or Scer\GAL4[how-24B] does not result in an increase in lifespan.
Flies expressing Hsap\SOD1[Scer\UAS.cPa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[elav.Switch.PO] in the presence of RU486 show no alteration in lifespan compared to controls.
Flies expressing Hsap\SOD1Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4D42 in a wild-type background have mean and maximum adult lifespans up to 40% longer than isogenic controls. The pre-mortality plateau phase of the life curve (less than 5% mortality) is extended from approximately 27 to approximately 50 days.
