Detailed Description

WAla5.GMR flies have a smaller eye than normal.

WAla5.GMR flies exhibit a small eye phenotype due to increased apoptosis in the eye.

Mutant animals have small rough eyes.

Eye reduced. Phenotypes of WGMR.PG, WAla3.GMR and WAla5.GMR are comparable. Some lines completely lack eye structures. Phenotype is slightly suppressed by hemizygosity at the endogenous W locus.

Genetic Interactions

Heterozygosity for either Gap1mip-w+ or aosΔ7 does not suppress the small eye phenotype caused by WAla5.GMR.

Expression of AckK156A.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU (either alone, or in conjunction with either aosΔ7/+ or Gap1mip-w+/+) does not suppress the small eye phenotype caused by WAla5.GMR.

Expression of AckScer\UAS.cSb under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU suppresses the small eye phenotype caused by WAla5.GMR. Further suppression is seen if the flies are also heterozygous for either aosΔ7/+ or Gap1mip-w+/+.

Expression of AckScer\UAS.cSb under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU suppresses the small eye phenotype caused by WAla5.GMR. Further suppression is seen if the flies are also co-expressing SH3PX1KK100618.

Co-expression of either Hsp26KK106347 or MagiGD10066 further reduces the size of the eye in a WAla5.GMR, AckScer\UAS.cSb, Scer\GAL4GMR.PU background.

Co-expression of drkKK109233 does not modify eye size in animals expressing WAla5.GMR.

Co-expression of drkKK109233 in a WAla5.GMR, AckScer\UAS.cSb, Scer\GAL4GMR.PU background results in flies with eyes that are greatly reduced in size.

Ras85DR68Q fails to suppress WAla5.GMR (which lacks all of the 5 predicted MAPK phosphorylation sites) induced cell death.

Expression of dcoScer\UAS.cSa in the eye (under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF) strongly suppresses the pro-apoptotic activity of WAla5.GMR.

Eye size is largely restored by co-expression of banEP3622 (driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF) with WAla5.GMR. The addition of Df(3L)banΔ1 to WAla5.GMR animals leads to a significant enhancement of the eye phenotype.

When sav3 clones are induced in the eye disc in WAla5.GMR mutants, the induction of apoptosis is reduced in a cell autonomous manner.
