Expression of RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 leads to significant decrease in flight ability in adults (measured as flight time in a single flight assay on tethered flies), but their gross wing morphology as well as climbing ability is unaffected as compared with controls. Similar flight deficit is observed also when the RalaS25N.Scer\UAS expression is limited to pupal stages (using tub-Gal80[ts] to exert the temporal control) but not if it is restricted to larval stages or to adulthood.

Expression of RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of both Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 and Scer\GAL4upd blocks border cell migration in over 70% of stage-10 oocytes.

Scer\GAL4en-e16E-mediated expression of RalaS25N.Scer\UAS causes wing phenotypes including duplications of crossvein starting points that fail to link to longitudinal veins.

The wing cells of flies expressing RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL469B often form multiple wing hairs. The hairs are shorter than wild type and some are forked, curved or twisted. In pupal wings, cells with 2 or 3 prehairs are occasionally seen (only one prehair forms per cell in wild-type wings). The morphology of the prehairs is irregular. Hairs on the notum are also often shortened, forked, twisted, duplicated or triplicated. Some bristles on the notum are lost. Flies expressing RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 show loss of bristles (both macrochaetae and microchaetae) on the notum. In some cases both shafts and sockets are affected.

Coexpression of the dominant negative RalaS25N.Scer\UAS with trcT453A.Scer\UAS, under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544, leads to a complete suppression of the trcT453A.Scer\UAS phenotype. In contrast, coexpression of the constitutively active RalaG20V.Scer\UAS transgene with trcT453A.Scer\UAS, under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544, results in a dramatic enhancement of the multiple wing hair phenotype.

The bristle loss phenotype caused by expression of RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 is dominantly suppressed by hepr75, hep1, bskflp147E, bsk2 or bsk1.

Expression of RalaS25N.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Rala-PG69 in a RalaPG69 mutant background does not rescue lethality and border cell migration.

The loss of bristles and morphological defects on the notum caused by RalaS25N.Scer\UAS,Scer\GAL469B flies, are largely rescued by overexpression of RalaScer\UAS.cSa.
