      Homozygotes die as embryos without any gross abnormalities. Large homozygous clones in the eye result in severe roughening as well as size reduction of the ventral half of the eye. The defects include aberrant rotation of some ommatidia in the clone. Many ommatidia also show a stronger defect and show a significant reduction in the number of photoreceptor cells to 4, 5 or 6 cells per ommatidium.
