Expression of nkdScer\UAS.cZa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c in a wgl-17/+ background results in fusions between denticle belts due to loss of intervening naked cuticle. This effect is suppressed if the embryos are also heterozygous for RacGAP50CAR2; the triple mutant embryos have a wild-type cuticle pattern. Expression of nkdScer\UAS.cZa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c significantly rescues the cuticle pattern defects seen in RacGAP50CAR2 embryos, although embryonic lethality is not rescued. However, the accumulation of binucleate cells in the epidermis that is seen during stage 11 in RacGAP50CAR2 embryos is unaffected if the embryos are also expressing nkdScer\UAS.cZa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c.
The naked cuticle phenotype of nkd3 embryos is partially rescued by expression of nkdScer\UAS.cZa under the control of either Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 or Scer\GAL4en-e16E, with more complete rescue being seen when Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 is used as the driver.
