Detailed Description

Homozygous larval escapers have undergrown synapses at the neuromuscular junction compared to wild-type; overall synapse length is reduced to 85.8 μm in the mutant larvae compared to 111.1 μm in the wild type. HemJ1-70/HemΔ2-6 larvae have significantly shorter synapses at the neuromuscular junction (86.2 μm) compared to wild type (111.1 μm). The synaptic terminals have an abnormally high number of synaptic buds (5.1 compared to 1.6 buds per synapse in wild-type larvae).

Mutant embryos show a subtle commissural and connective phenotype in the central nervous system.
