Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

HemJ4-48/HemΔ2-6 larvae have reduced neuromuscular junctions with bulging, irregular boutons. About 15% of the heads of HemJ4-48/HemΔ2-6 flies have one or more bent macrochaetae.

HemJ1-70/HemΔ2-6 larvae have significantly shorter synapses at the neuromuscular junction (86.2 μm) compared to wild type (111.1 μm). The synaptic terminals have an abnormally high number of synaptic buds (5.1 compared to 1.6 buds per synapse in wild-type larvae).

Homozygotes show reduced eclosion rates. HemΔ2-6/HemC3-20 animals almost never eclose. A weak disorganisation of the lamina plexus and an abnormal bundling of R-cell axons in the medulla is seen in approximately 70% of homozygous third instar larvae. 20% of the remaining larvae show a stronger disorganisation of the R-cell axons and 10% are indistinguishable from wild type. This axonal phenotype is more pronounced in HemΔ2-6/HemC3-20 larvae.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

One copy of dock13421 enhances the axonal projection phenotype of HemΔ2-6 homozygous larvae. One copy of HemΔ2-6 enhances the axonal projection phenotype of dock13421 homozygous larvae.
