    Germaria with germ line grkunspecified mutation do not exhibit ectopic spectrosome containing cells.

    grkunspecified mutant oocytes, of a similar size to wild-type size 8 exhibit dramatically disrupted microtubule distribution. Specifically, microtubule organisation appears completely reversed compared to wild-type, in which the nucleus is at the anterior and microtubule plue-ends are located towards the posterior at stage 8. In slightly older oocytes, microtubules remain stretched out along the cortex from the posterior toward the anterior, where they fold back to the center of the oocyte. Microtubule distribution in grkunspecified oocytes is strikingly similar to microtubules of wild-type egg chambers before the migration of the oocyte nucleus. Likewise, the centrosome, found at the posterior of stage 6 wild-type oocytes, stays at the posterior in grkunspecified mutants. Thus, in grkunspecified mutants, the distribution of microtubules and the microtubule organising center seems similar to their distribution in wild-type stage 6.

    After cold-shock treatment of grkunspecified mutant oocytes, microtubule depolymerisation occurs in an asymmetric pattern and is restricted to the areas surrounding the nucleus, as in wild-type.
