Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4so-7.GAL4 leads to an increase in Rh5 photoreceptors and a decrease in Rh6 photoreceptors. The overall number of photoreceptors remains unaltered.

Flies expressing sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 have disorganised eyes characterised by extra bristles.

sensE2 homozygous clones in the eye (in which sensScer\UAS.cNa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68 which rescues R8 cell differentiation, but is not expressed during the late phase of R8 axon targeting) show targeting defects in the medulla; thicker columns, which likely indicate mistargeting of R8 axons to the M6 layer are seen, as well as columns in which the R7 axon terminated in the M6 layer while the R8 axon crosses into a neighbouring column.

Approximately 25% of R7 neurons which are expressing sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub show mistargeting to the M3 layer of the medulla.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 results in a roughened eye with many ectopic interommatidial bristles, with multiple bristles being formed at a single vertex of ommatidia as well as ectopic bristles outside of the vertices. Ommatidia contain the normal number of photoreceptor cells, and in most ommatidia all accessory cells are present, although secondary and tertiary pigment cells are slightly misshapen compared to wild type. Secondary pigment cells are sometimes absent, resulting in ommatidial fusions and misrotation of ommatidia.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1 induces numerous extra bristles on the thorax.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa, under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68, generates 7 extra sensory organs along the third wing vein.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.PU results in the formation of numerous ectopic sensory bristles on the notum.

Overexpression of sensScer\UAS.cNa in the sensory organ precursor cells under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68 causes extra bristle formation, both of microchaetae and macrochaetae, on the thorax of the adult fly.

When sensScer\UAS.cNa is expressed in the eye as clones (driven by Scer\GAL4elav-C155) ommatidia are disrupted in the centre of the clone.

Ectopic expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa in the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4C1003 results in a severe wing margin phenotype, while the rest of the wing is unaffected. Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4C96 results in a loss of wing margin. The loss is more severe in the distal and posterior area of the wing. Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in large clusters of extra bristles on the notum as well as parts of the wing surface. Severe loss of all distal parts of the leg is seen.

The expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 causes the formation of numerous bristles and sensilla campaniformia in the adult wing in proximity of the third wing vein where dpp is normally expressed (extra bristles and sensilla campaniformia are not seen in the wing hinge region). In some areas, there are as many as five adjacent peripheral nervous system organs. Many supernumerary bristles are also produced in the sternopleural area as well as in more distal portions of the leg. Some P{UAS-sens.N} lines cause very severe tufting in the adult notum, wings and legs and loss of tissues in other portions of imaginal discs, such as wing margins and distal leg structures when expressed using Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 causes a few extra bristles at the base of the eye.

The co-expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa partially suppresses the severe loss of thoracic sensory macrochaeta and microchaeta observed upon the expression of Rbfox1dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68.

The mutant eye phenotype caused by expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 is dominantly suppressed by Caf1long, Caf1med and Caf1short.

Co-expression of AntpScer\UAS.cMb or pbScer\UAS.A strongly suppresses the disorganised eye phenotype caused by expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa in the thorax, under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1, leads to the generation of bristles on the thorax of sc10-1 mutants. The amount of bristles generated by sensScer\UAS.cNa is insertion-dependent; the weak P{UAS-sens.N}C6 insertion leads to the presence of only a few bristles, while the strong P{UAS-sens.N}C5 insertion generates more bristles.

Coexpression of daScer\UAS.cGa and sensScer\UAS.cNa in the thorax, under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1, leads to the generation of multiple bristles on the thorax of sc10-1 mutants; these bristles are present at a much greater density than those on wild-type thoraces or indeed the density produced by expressing either daScer\UAS.cGa or sensScer\UAS.cNa alone.

Overexpression of sensScer\UAS.cNa, under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1, results in the formation of bristles in Df(1)260-1 clones, which are usually devoid of bristles.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa, under the control of Scer\GAL4tub in da3 thoracic clones does not rescue the missing microchaeta phenotype. No neurons are observed in these clones.

sensScer\UAS.cNa; Scer\GAL4ey.PB partially rescues eye size and ommatidial number, and completely suppresses the formation of undifferentiated regions in EgfrE1 homozygous adult eyes.

Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1 restores only a few external sensory organs in the notum of Df(1)sc10-1 flies. Expression of sensScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1 fails to rescue external sensory organ formation in homozygous phyl2 clones in the notum.
