abd-A is expressed in the parts of the developing female reproductive system that correspond to the internal genitalia. In third instar larvae, Ecol\lacZ^HC7JA1 expression is localized to the female genital disc, in the region corresponding to abdominal segment 8. At late stages of pupariation, expression is localized to the seminal receptacle, spermathecum, uterus and oviduct of the female reproductive system, but is not expressed in the female accessory gland.
