When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4^da.G32 or Scer\GAL4^Act5C.PI death results. Embryonic development seems normal until germ band extension but defects appear in the Malpighian tubules, muscles (though early myocytes are normal) and trachea. The few larvae that hatch are largely paralysed, except for head movements, and soon die.
