Overexpression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] driven by Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF] results in a variable slightly glossy, rough eye phenotype, sometimes with loss of pigmentation. This is temperature-dependent.
Expression of one copy of Uba2C175S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 generally results in the production of apparently normal adult progeny with no or very mild lethality at 29oC. P{UAS-Uba2.C175S} lines expressing higher levels of Uba2C175S.Scer\UAS result in higher lethality (approximately 50% for P{UAS-Uba2.C175S}117F and 100% for P{UAS-Uba2.C175S}92E). Animals expressing high levels of Uba2C175S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have a rough, depigmented eye.

The eye phenotype resulting from simultaneous expression of Hsap\MJD[tr.Q78.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] and Hsp60D[dsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS] via Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] does not appear to be affected by co-expression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS]. The Hsp60D[dsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS]-mediated suppression of the eye phenotype resulting from the expression of Zzzz\CAG[127Q.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] driven by Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] is less pronounced in the presence of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS]. Simultaneous expression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] and Hsap\MJD[tr.Q78.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] via Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] enhances eye degradation, resulting in more glazed eyes with little pigmentation. Simultaneous expression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] and Zzzz\CAG[127Q.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] via Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] enhances the eye degeneration phenotype.
Co-expression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] with Hsap\AR[Q112.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] (both under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]) results in a constant enhancement of the eye degeneration, as illustrated by severe loss of pigmentation. Co-expression of Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] and Hsap\HSPA1L[Scer\UAS.cWa] with Hsap\AR[Q112.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] (all under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]) fails to suppress the enhancement of the eye degeneration phenotype found in Uba2[C175S.Scer\UAS] ; Hsap\AR[Q112.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] flies.
