Flies expressing y[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[da.G32] have a paler thorax than wild-type controls.
Body colour: expression of ydsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI results in 100% of animals displaying a y1-like phenotype, having a y mutant cuticle, wings and bristles. Body colour: expression of ydsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a y2-like phenotype in about 37% of flies, with y mutant cuticle and wings but wild-type bristles. A high proportion of animals show an "incomplete y phenotype", having a yellowish cuticle (especially visible on the pale areas of the abdomen and thorax) ranging from almost y-like to almost wild-type. Body colour: expression of ydsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tim.PE does not result in a y mutant phenotype. Body colour: expression of ydsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using a single 1 hour heat pulse at the late third instar/early pupal stage results in about 5-10% of flies have a y1-like phenotype, and about 30% of flies having yellow-brown bristles but wild-type wings and body. No y silencing is seen when the heat shock occurs during the embryo, first or second larval or older pupal or adult stages. A 1 hour heat pulse per day from the late third instar until hatching results in a stronger y mutant phenotype.
