Flies expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have a dramatically reduced eye which lacks bristles. The reduced eye size is not due to a lack of morphogenetic furrow progression. The eyes show a large degree of apoptosis during pupal development. Expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 completely blocks progression of the morphogenetic furrow.

Co-expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS results in near complete suppression of the fusion of alternating denticle belts seen in larvae expressing midScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4prd.RG1.

Co-expression of panΔN.Scer\UAS partially suppresses the small eye and lack of interommatidial bristle phenotype caused by expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. Co-expression of daScer\UAS.cGa does not significantly alter the small eye phenotype caused by expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, but does fully suppress the loss of interommatidial bristles seen in these flies. Co-expression of scScer\UAS.cHa does not significantly alter the small eye phenotype caused by expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, but does fully suppress the loss of interommatidial bristles seen in these flies. Co-expression of atoScer\UAS.cCa does not rescue the loss of interommatidial bristles seen in flies expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. Co-expression of panΔN.Scer\UAS significantly rescues morphogenetic furrow progression in flies expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Co-expression of daScer\UAS.cGa restores some progression of the morphogenetic furrow in animals expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Co-expression of dppScer\UAS.cSa does not rescue progression of the morphogenetic furrow in animals expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Co-expression of atoScer\UAS.cCa significantly rescues progression of the morphogenetic furrow in animals expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Co-expression of scScer\UAS.cHa restores some progression of the morphogenetic furrow in animals expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Co-expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS and hhScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 does not rescue morphogenetic furrow progression from the posterior edge of the eye disc, but usually results in one (or occasionally more) ectopic morphogenetic furrows initiating in the interior of the eye primordium and progressing concentrically.
