Expression of srpScer\UAS.cHa in the mesoderm of embryos, under the control of both Scer\GAL4how-24B and Scer\GAL4twi.PG, reduces the number of cardioblasts and induces a cell fate transformation of pericardial nephrocytes to hematopoietic progenitors.
Expression of srpScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG results in expansion of the lateral fat body in both the dorsal/ventral and anterior/posterior axis. Dorsal fat-cell projections are expanded and fused with the lateral fat body in the posterior region of the embryo. Development of the endogenous fat cells appears normal (in terms of expression of P{lacW}29D) in embryos expressing srpScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG. The somatic gonadal precursors (SGPs) are specified and the initial association of pole cells with gonadal precursors appears normal in embryos expressing srpScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG. However, the SGPs fail to migrate and coalesce at stage 13. Heart precursors develop normally to form the heart. The midgut fails to undergo its normal constrictions. A dramatic loss of somatic muscle fibres is seen. The few remaining muscle fibres are mono- and bi-nucleate and their number and location varies from embryo to embryo. Expression of srpScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL469B does not alter the normal development or morphology of the lateral fat body and dorsal fat-cell projections.
